South Beach
Before the 1989 earthquake, the Embarcadero waterfront promenade was dominated by an unattractive freeway extension. The freeway was later torn down and the Embarcadero was reinvented with palm trees, vintage trolley cars and a restored Ferry Building. A world-class ballpark followed, and soon San Francisco’s first new neighborhood in generations was born. Young, hip, exciting, and increasingly upscale, South Beach consists primarily of new luxury high-rise condos with concierge service and water views. Starting at $800,000, South Beach condos are popular with young professionals, retirees, investors, and those wanting a second home in a metro area. Growth here has spurred residential development in nearby Rincon Hill, with its emerging water-view condo towers. South Beach also offers easy access to the financial district, Caltrain and Highways 101 and 280.
